We exist to save the affordable housing on Hilgard

Save the existing affordable housing at 900 Hilgard Avenue from being destroyed by two Beverly Hills surgeons/developers who want to build a $100 Million high-rise. The existing housing, Podshare, must remain.

AFFORDABLE HOUSING

city leaders must keep & promote existing affordable housing

Save the existing affordable housing at 900 Hilgard Avenue, Podshare, a pioneering co-living facility that is currently a tenant at this location, from being destroyed by two Beverly Hills surgeons/developers who want to build a $100 Million high-rise.

A recap of the myriad of issues was covered by Stephanie Lai of the Daily Bruin on Jan 31, 2019

Doctors Ted Khalili and Eraj Basseri propose a development that would produce rental rates of $7700/ unit/month, based on 2 beds per room and an avg of 7 beds per unit.  Podshare costs $840/ bed a month.

The $7700 / unit avg rental rates of the doctor's "Agora" project would be extremely over-priced for students. They ignore this reality. Instead, they have the audacity to claim they will address student homelessness and the need for affordable housing among UCLA students in a ploy to get Councilmember Paul Koretz and the North Westwood Neighborhood Council (NWNC) to drink their kool-aid.  UCLA is not affiliated. UCLA was contacted by the developers, and the Chancellors office replied "we declined to support the project."

We need to save Podshare.

Tell our City leaders to push back the developers' "Lie in the Sky" and shun their manipulative tactics that exploit real student issues.  Our community will not welcome their plans as proposed- not an 8 story or a 16 story. Sign our petition so we can insist Councilman Koretz and Chairman Michael Skiles of the NWNC use their leadership to say NO to the developers and their high-priced lobbying firm, Afriat Consulting for this project, at this location of 900 Hilgard.

these developers exploit student issues to try to get project support

Their paid facebook ads trying to justify their $100 million high rise.

They likely took this photo from a gofundme page that a real homeless Berkeley student created.

PAID FACEBOOK ADS exploiting homelessness. homeless won't be able to afford $3000+ rents and neither will students.

We know the Agora's rates will be $3000+ a month based on their plans. This other project, the Marina building, is at $2000 rental rate and is a much simpler building. The Agora is high-rise steel construction in today's market which is top dollar.

See the Agora website here.

This is not student housing and it is not affordable housing.

In a move to show they can put a bandaid on the obvious sham, the developer's representatives issued a press release on 1/16/19 (attached below) about how they'll just double the number of students in each bedroom, showing that they were completely fabricating their numbers during City meetings originally and that they will say anything just to get the project approved.

Why do you think a change in product so soon?  Most unusual.  This is immediately after they released first set of plans.  They are newbies and it shows.  The "flip-flop" Agora.
